We say it all the time, but that’s because it’s true: the best things in Oakland are free. Splash Pad Park has always been one of our favorite spots in the Town, and on Sunday, July 15th, we’re turning the grass into a giant dancefloor. And really, what’s better than dancing in the sunshine on a Sunday afternoon?

From 12 till 5, we’ll be alternating DJ sets with live Cuban salsa music from Team Bahia. There will be free salsa lessons for the crowd, and everyone is welcome to join in. It’s a family-friendly event, and there will be so many people that nobody will notice if you’re tripping over your feet.

Not up for dancing in front of strangers? It’s still the perfect setting for a picnic, and it’s guaranteed to be some of the best people-watching in the city.

In true Oaklandish spirit, this event is totally, completely free and spontaneous — so there’s no need to sign up or RSVP, and there’s nothing you need to buy. Just show up on Sunday with your good looks and dancing shoes, and we’ll take care of the rest.
