Oaklandish is excited to announce that we will be hosting none other than ‘OG Told Me‘ author Pendarvis Harshaw for an in-store meet and greet, book signing, and Q&A session on Sunday, April 2nd!
Pendarvis, an Oakland native and graduate of UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism, has worked with Oaklandish in various ways over the past years. When Pendarvis, or Pen as his friends call him, reached out to us about doing an event for his “OG Told Me’ book we naturally had to make it happen.
OG Told Me is, as Pen describes it, a coming of age memoir about a kid from Oakland who listened to his elders. Because of these interactions growing up, Pen interviewed a plethora of community members asking them about their life stories and what advice they have for younger individuals. These stories found a home at his website OGToldMe.Tumblr.Com. His body of work has been years in the making, and collects many treasures of information from generations past.
Please join us on Sunday April 2nd, from 2pm – 4:30 pm, at our downtown shop (1444 Broadway) to hear about Pen’s journey as an author and a member of the Oakland community. Attendees at this free event will have the opportunity to purchase books, have them signed by the author, and participate in a Question & Answer segment with an Oakland community elder and Pendarvis himself.
