History / Inspiration
When you're downtown with the Tribune Tower and Oakland City Center towering over you, it's easy to forget that Oakland started out as a landscape of coast, scrub and redwoods. But these trees that are conspicuously absent from downtown gave Oakland its name, and pretty much made the city's early economy of logging and later, agriculture.
In any case, celebrate Oakland's roots – and yours too – with a shirt that reminds us whether we're a redwood or a skyscraper, we were all once acorns, too.
From the forest floor to the canopies of Oakland, tiny Oaklandish acorns develop into the wide oaks that are native to the East Bay. Let your Oakland roots grow deep, in the spirit of the Oaklandish tree.
