History / Inspiration
These lines are a circulatory system for The Bay, and they all run through Oaklandish. But the connections between us are much deeper than any tunnel and have very little to do with trains. They have to do with the shared feeling of riding to Coliseum/Oakland Airport for a big game/vacation, to 16th St. Mission for vintage shopping, or the last train back to Pittsburg at the end of a boisterous night. These are episodes in a Bay Life, and together with a million other similar journeys make up a part of our common experience here.
That's why this shirt isn't about the special-purpose transit district that operates the trains, but instead is about packing your bike onto a car that already has too many others, knowing precisely which door to enter to be near an exit on the other side, and how you bring your Oakland roots with you everywhere you go throughout the bay, and beyond.
About the designer
This product is designed by Oaklandish. Everyone we work with is involved in creating artwork, choosing colors, or selecting fabrics. It's a detailed process that doesn't end until all the shirts are folded and ready to represent Oakland.
