We are excited to announce that the Oaklandish Nonprofit for the month of August is the WestCoast Children’s Clinic.
The WestCoast Children’s Clinic provides psychological services to vulnerable children, youth, and their families in the East Bay. The Clinic, based in Oakland, is committed to supporting these children and their families regardless of their ability to pay, and to expanding accessibility to mental health services in our community. To do this, WestCoast trains the next generation of community psychologists. Founded in 1979, over the past 25 years, WestCoast has trained over 200 therapist interns, and provided an estimated 450,000 hours of therapy and assessment services to more than 8,000 children and families. In addition to training and community therapy services, WestCoast carries out research on psychological diagnosis and treatment, collaborating directly with families, and uses the results to advocate for vulnerable children and youth with policy makers.
In their own words, the clinic characterizes their work as: “For each of the 1,700 children who come to WestCoast – from the child who was just removed from his family, to the teen preparing to live on her own after foster care – we offer this: A person to help restore their sense of hope and faith, someone to talk to when things fall apart and help them see themselves and their possibilities differently.”
At Oaklandish, we’re more than excited for the opportunity to support this mental health clinic in the Town and the children they serve. We’ll be hosting an in-store event at the Oaklandish Dimond shop (3419 Fruitvale Ave.) on August 19th to benefit WestCoast’s immensely important mission. Stop by from 12 to 4 pm to learn more about the clinic and how you can aid their work.
Ten percent of the day’s proceeds will be donated directly to the WestCoast Children’s Clinic and the psychological services they provide to local children and families.
