We had a BLAST at the in-store event for this August’s Non-Profit of the Month: Camp Reel Stories!
The staff and campers from Camp Reel Stories, a girls film/multimedia camp based in the Town, came out in full force this past Sunday, August 21st, 2016.
While customers browsed the store, all participants from the non-profit encouraged passers by to make their own movie posters, challenging them to question ubiquitous male-dominated imagery! Participants additionally used Flip cameras – provided by Camp Reel Stories – to make their own mini films, or just have fun shooting clips in the downtown storefront.
For those who are unfamiliar, the Camp Reel Stories mission is to change the current male-dominated film landscape to be more inclusive of female actors, directors, producers and all positions in between. The summer camp provides opportunities for young women to learn about the industry with hopes that these new female leaders will work in front of, and behind, the cameras and change the contemporary gender roles we see in the film industry.
