This weekend, City Slicker Farms invites you to the biggest party they’ve ever thrown. After six years of designing, fundraising, digging, building, and planting, they’re opening the West Oakland Farm Park — the largest farm they’ve ever cultivated, a public park, and an active educational space.
We couldn’t be more excited about the launch of this new site. Because this land has been set aside to be a park and urban farm in perpetuity, it means that — unlike with many of the urban farms they’ve built and managed over the past 15 years — they won’t have to move! The West Oakland Farm Park is a permanent piece of farmland and greenspace designed and built by our community. So many hands have helped bring this dream to life, and this weekend, we’re celebrating and saying thank you!
Join us for a jam-packed weekend of food and fun! Saturday will feature a free local meal, farm tours, musical performances, kids’ activities, and a community fair. On Sunday, we’ll be opening the Farm Park for its first day of workshops, activities, and classes, hosted by our community partners, friends, and staff. From herbal healing to cooking healthy on a budget to sheet mulching to Tai Chi and yoga, Sunday’s workshops schedule features something for everyone. Come get a taste of the Farm Park this Saturday, June 11th and Sunday, June 12th! All festivities will take place at the Farm Park, 2847 Peralta Street in Oakland, CA.
