As we soak up the first days of Summer in the beautiful Bay Area, we’re changing it up from our usual First Friday vibes and trying a something a little something different. This First Friday, we’re featuring Oakland’s very own Fever Charm, a band with a unique Rock/Indie-Pop crossover sound that matches the sunny California weather we’re currently enjoying.
Fever Charm began when singer Ari Berl, bassist Yianni Anastos-Prastacos, and guitarist Theo Quayle met in high school. Drummer JT Gagarin joined the trio while they attended university in Boston (Berklee, Northeastern). During college, the band split their time between the Bay Area and Boston, building up a dedicated bi-coastal fan base in the process.
Over the years, the band has become known for their high energy, crowd-engaging shows, consisting of loud guitars, beach balls flying through the air, crowd surfing, and the occasional instrument smash. Their music combines timeless pop sensibilities with California surfy-garage rock, reminiscent of acts such as Grouplove and Cage the Elephant.
More recently, the band has moved to the thriving creative community of Silver Lake, CA to pursue music full time, and spent the winter of 2015 writing and recording their new EP, Retrograde, which is slated to be released this summer!
