XXL and The Fader both reported that last week Kendrick Lamar shot a video for his song “Alright” in Oakland, and then proceeded to show photos of the MC in front of a crowd of cool kids on Treasure Island. The aforementioned cool kids were mostly from Oakland, but Treasure Island is in San Francisco.
One East Bay based publication did cite the correct location of where Lamar was inverted and suspended in front of a crowd of people that included Los Rakas, members of HBK and other factors in the Bay Area’s entertainment scene.
The video was directed by Berkeley’s own Colin Tilley. He’s been behind projects for artists such as Justin Bieber, Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj; and he can now add K.Dot to that list.
One might wonder how much influence Tilley had on Lamar shooting a portion of his video on an island in Oakland’s backyard (and rumor has it that they actually did shoot on Oakland’s mainland; just not in the photos shown).
But there’s no wondering about the amount of influence that the Oakland kids in the background of Lamar’s shoot in San Francisco are going to have won the vibe of the video. Can’t wait to see it when it drops!
In the meantime, here is a clip from the one of the cool kids who kicked it with Kendrick.
