This past Friday, the San Francisco Chronicle ran a piece on the Oakland Police Department’s crackdown of barbecuing, playing loud music, and littering by people hanging out on the shores of Lake Merritt.
“Oakland needs to celebrate the growing number of people frequenting Lake Merritt instead of seeking to discourage or even punish them with bureaucratic dictates,” says Spencer Whitney, author of the piece.
Whitney, who resides near the lake, also spoke with well-known Oaklander, Leon Sykes; Council member, Abel Guillen; and Oakland Parks and Recreation Manager of Operations, Dana Riley about the issue.
