Weekend recap: December 18-20

Hello Oakland, welcome to the first day of winter!

Today the sunrise was at 7:21 am and will set at 4:53pm; and stating tomorrow, the days will get longer!

The Raiders fell to the Packers over the weekend, 30-20. The fellas in Silver and Black made some costly mistakes against the perfectionist that is Aaron Rogers, and that made for a lethal combination. But as one Bay Area writer put it, there were a number of bright spots in the midst of a sloppy game on a rainy Sunday in East Oakland.

Speaking of bright spots in East Oakland, the Warriors won on Friday night in a tight game against the Milwaukee Bucks. The grudge match against the team that beat the Dubs to end their historic season beginning winning streak was a nail-biter, and led to a heated exchange between the Bucks OJ Mayo and the Warriors Draymond Green. And a lot of Twitter hubbub about the 10-18 tees we made (not for sale).

Speaking of Draymond, last week he was granted the key to the city of Emeryville!

Oakland icon Goapele came by the Oaklandish downtown store on Saturday to meet fans, and we unveiled our new #CloserToMyDreams collab tee (available online soon). Then we headed to Parliament to celebrate their 2-year anniversary, with live performance from Goapele plus sets from DJ D Sharp, Vinroc, Lady Ryan.

There were a number of big shows in Oakland over the weekend, including two shows from Oakland’s own Grammy-nominated artist, Kehlani, performing at the Fox Theatre. This photo shared via her fan page says it all!

On Saturday morning, a motorist drowned in the Oakland Estuary after his car was submerged.

Early Sunday morning, just after 1am, a man was shot and killed near Hegenberger rd in East Oakland.

On Sunday afternoon around 2pm, 2 people were shot in West Oakland, leaving one teenager dead.

Authorities are still investigating a shooting that injured four people outside of a club in San Leandro early Monday morning.

Tonight at The New Parish, Monday Soul returns as Netta Brielle takes the stage!
