We Are a B-Corp - What That Means & Why We Do It
The world is facing many major challenges. Our environment is in rapid decline. Inequality is widening, not closing. By choosing to prioritize profit over people and the planet, many businesses are adding to the problem.
We don’t want to be one of them, so we decided to keep ourselves accountable by becoming a certified B Corp. B Corps are businesses that pursue an impactful business model and strive to make their companies a force for good for people and the planet.
Attaining B Corp Certification is more than a logo mark; it's a global movement of people exploring what's possible when companies think beyond profit and come together to prove there's a better way to do business.
B Corp Certification indicates that a business meets high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency, ranging from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials. To achieve certification, a company must demonstrate high social and environmental performance, make a legal commitment to change its corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders, and exhibit transparency by allowing information about their performance to be analyzed and available on the B Corp website.
B Corp Certification is holistic, not exclusively focused on a single social or environmental issue. And the process to achieve and maintain certification is rigorous and requires engaging teams and departments across the company. Recertification confirms these standards are met on an ongoing basis.
How Oaklandish Got Certified
We provided detailed social and environmental performance information through the B Impact Assessment, which measures business practices and outputs across governance, workers, the community, the environment, and customers. To maintain a commitment to transparency, we also allow information about how our performance measures against B Lab's standards to be publicly available on our B Corp profile on the B Lab website.
