Easy to Remember: Schools Tee

February 2025 marks Black History Month, and BPPALN in partnership with Oaklandish presents ‘Easy to Remember’ - a new series of designs by renowned graphic artist.

The title is inspired by a song from the legendary John Coltrane, and nods towards recognizing and remembering the true legacy of the Black Panther Party: the creation of enduring, lasting community survival programs that serve the people, instead of the sensationalized public perception of the Party tarnished by the government and their controlled media.

#2 Schools- In 1973, the Black Panther Party founded the Oakland Community School to provide education for Black and low-income children who lived in urban communities. The school fed students with three meals a day, and has become the model for today’s educational institutions, operating on liberation and empowerment principles, while promoting innovative practices of mindfulness and restorative justice. Remember the Schools, not just the Jackets is a message to discard the unnecessary media focal point about the Panthers’ short-lived image of the gun-toting black berets and leather jackets.
